Books from EMRI

EMRI's books are the work of the EMRI collective, without named authors, who assign the intellectual property rights in the books to EMRI. We then sell them to fund our activities.

We've found that our conclusions generally fly in the face of conventional wisdom - but that has to be an oxymoron anyway, so we don't care. An English bishop expressed our attitude best back at the start of the 18th century:

I speak my truth as I see it. If it be right, it will stand of itself. If it be not, it is fit it should sink.

This is one of the few things any bishop anywhere has ever said that the writer can agree with.

We've set up discussion boards so you can discuss our books, and help us improve them. We don't censor any opinions as long as they're based on rational evaluation of facts, are expressed courteously, add something to the discussion, and are not there to promote a private agenda - use your own site for that.

So - be prepared for a paradigm shift, which is as unsettling as a tectonic shift, and just as unavoidable.

What do teachers do, really?

Teachers don't teach anymore. They call themselves educators, and educators are bureaucrats, doing the will of their bureaucratic masters and ignoring the will of the customers. This is true all over the world - and it's a crying shame, because to handle the complex world of today needs educated, agile, rational minds. If you haven't seen one of those lately, blame the educators!

This book tells you what educators actually do, why they shouldn't do it,and what they need to do to become teachers again - for the good of all mankind, including such educators as belong to the species. We're sure it will enrage a good many people - but we're also sure that it says what needs to be said, and offers viable solutions to a problem that could quite easily destroy the human race.

Teaching language to the language brain

Language courses are like fad diets. Any one of them will work for someone, somewhere, some time, sometimes. None will work for everyone, any time, all the time. That just goes to show that all language courses are designed without any understanding of the way we acquire language.

EMRI has designed methods that allow students to acquire a second language as easily as their first, and in much less time. This book explains those methods for the edification of language teachers everywhere.

If you're a language teacher and have been frustrated by your inability to get through to students no matter how hard you try, this book will show you how to apply modern insights of the way the language brain works to do your job more effectively, more efficiently, and much faster.

And if you're someone who wants to acquire a new language for whatever reason, you'll find guidance on how to evaluate the hundreds of language courses on offer, to pick the one that gives you the best results, soonest.

Teaching mathematical intuition

In any math class: 10% like the subject, and do it well; 10% will never get it; and the other 95% hate it with a pation. (They usually hate spelling too.)

The reason for this is simple: the way we teach math actively opposes the way the brain does math. This produces an internal discord that is verbally expressed as hatred - you can't fool all the people all the time!

A change of approach - a paradigm shift - is needed to get the passionate haters of math into the camp of those who can do it, and even enjoy it. This book lays out that approach. If you teach math, and wish you could do it better, this is where you will find out how.

Neurocybernetix - the new science of everything that matters to you

EMRI's work is based on two pillars: neuroscience, to see what is happening in the brain; and kerma, to explain what we see. This happy union forms the basis of the science of neurocybernetix, which is laid out in this book.

Neurocybernetix will help you understand yourself and others. It explains the way the brain works; the role of emotions; the consequences of of having two sides to the brain - including murder. It explains how you learn, and how to learn better; how you think, and how to think better; why you believe, or not, in supernatural entities, or government programs; why you regard morality as important, or not; how your minds affect your body, and vice versa; how to use your mind to avoid, control, and cure, many diseases and disorders; how to stay sane, and why so many people don't; and much more besides.

This sounds just like Scientology, doesn't it? But while Scientology is an outgrowth of science fiction (L. Ron Hubbard used to write for the early pulps, before he found he could sucker fans into paying much more for his fantasies), neurocybernetix is based solidly on science. If you can find holes in it, join the neurocybernetix discussion board and have your say.

GOOD KERMA: Knowledge engineering and reality modeling to understand, explain and - where possible - control the Universe.

We wanted a snappy title for a new way of looking at things, a superset, as it turned out, of software engineering. Knowledge engineering and reality modeling are both far too long, so we used both - as an acronym. We put the A on the end of it to end up with KERMA - a sort of pun on the Sanskrit word karma, which means action (and not reward, as most people think).

Kerma gives you the tools to attack complex problems the same way good software engineers design complex systems. It can yield to dramatic results: one of the authors found that it led to a whole new understanding of cosmology. This result is so fundamental that it throws the Big Bang, black holes, dark matter, dark energy, and a lot more besides, out the window. You have to get the book to get the full story.

Without an understanding of kerma, neurocybernetix will remain for you an exercise in gossip and speculation - interesting perhaps, but not really comprehensible. If you're a software engineer, an understanding of kerma will show you that there's a whole lot more to software engineering than just software engineering. And if you're in government at any level, you need to understand kerma to understand gubernatix. What's gubernatix? That's the subject of the next book...

Gubernatix - the science of good government

Google "science of good government". There are almost no results. Surprised? Okay, point to a good government. You can't? I'm not surprised. There is presently no science of good government.

In any country where they hold elections, at least half the citizens are unhappy with the government at least half the time. Governments everywhere become ever large, more powerful, more intrusive and more tyrannical. To solve these problems, the citizens propose - changing the government. This, in spite of the fact that experience has shown them that changing the government is as useful as changing your hat to treat a brain tumor.

All this is because there is no science of good government - at any rate, not outside this book. Read it to find out how to become a good citizen, one who insists on a good government. And read it to find out how to become a good governor - one who does to the body politic what a good medico should do to the body of a patient. Bad doctors can be barred from practice - we don't have anything like that for pols. This book tells you how to remedy that too!
